I often hear friends ranting about equality and feminism and all those very important things that we ignore on a daily basis but Miss Travel reminded me of something I often think. It often seems to be perceived that sexual inequality is something created solely by these big powerful, sleazy men with no respect for women, who believe they are nothing more than objects and act like ‘Hey girl, wash my dishes’. But in reality I think that women are probably as big a hindrance to sexual equality as men are.
Some women seem to be little more than objects, they literally will do anything for the man knowing a shiny shone will be the reward. Of course none of the women I know are like this but the steeply inclined slope to equality is being littered with obstacles just as much by our own kind and this often gets looked over. Many feminists will comment on the shallowness of gossip magazines and the pressures on women to look perfect and the ‘ring of truth/ring of fat’ that circles nasty body parts in a trashy magazine. It is most definitely trashy and degrading but, unfortunately, is probably made by women and women LOVE to read it and go ‘look at the weight on her elbow’ because women love to gossip. And that is generally all women and not just the shallow diamond loving kind.
So this website,(http://www.misstravel.com/) if you haven’t heard about it was advertised as a dating website for travellers (i.e people who go travelling around the world regularly, not gypsys). In reality, as you will see from the introduction video it is a new form of escorting agency in which rich men, known on the site as ‘generous’ (desperate) respond to requests from the (assumingly poor) women, known on the site as ‘attractive’ (easy).
The advert implies that the men are doctors and lawyers and other such things, which if you think about it are probably going to be working 48 weeks a year anyway so aren’t travellers but rather just want to be accompanied by a lady who shuts up and puts out for their annual holiday to Hawaii. The women by far is the winner in this situation as the idea is she gets a luxury holiday paid for her , assumingly with yachts, champagne and shopping included. At the end of the holiday the man will be depressed for not having a real girlfriend and being down on cash and the woman has performed a few deeds for a much larger wage than a prostitute.
The worst part of this is the security issues, if there did happen to be a stupidly naïve woman (still not assisting the battle for equality) who arrived on this free holiday and didn’t realise some form of intercourse was included in the deal. She would be stranded thousands of miles from home with someone who has paid for her and would more than likely have to do it against her will because there would be realistically no way out as I’m quite sure she wouldn’t be able to pay ‘generous’ back.
Everything about this website is shocking, it’s terrible that it can exist but then there are huge amounts of people have signed up to it already and so who am I to say that it’s wrong? All I know is that it’s instating no progression in society and is an escorting agency disguised as something almost reasonable.
But then I could do with some cash and do love to travel….
